EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

Title:                                       Shonail

Story Angle:                            Sho is a ungrateful son and he only can complain about

his life without do anything, even though his father is try as hard as he can but Sho never appreciate it. Therefore his father is cursing him into snail so that at least he can strive to turn back into normal human.

1-Sentence Summary:             A grumpy kid that cursed by his father has to win against the other animal on race match in order to turn back into human

Target Audience:                     20-Something – 20-30 years

Synopsis:                                An ungrateful son named Sho that cursed by his own father named Ben, because Sho always complain about his father that never be able to give Sho decent life. Because of this reason Ben is angry and cursed Sho into a snail. However, Sho can turns back into human again if only he can wins against any kind of animal in a race match.

Sho goes on his journey to the forest to find his opponent, but anything becomes hard because Sho never try hard to do something in his life. Then he learns a life slice in every moment as snail.

3 ACT STRUCTURE (= story map on ONE page)

ACT1 – SET UP

Key Character - Sho

Motive -  He wanted to have a decent life.

Situation - his father cursed him into snail and he is looking for his opponent to have a race match because he wanted to turn back into normal human.

Turning Point1 Sho has no choice and he finds out his opponent, but he lost against the ants, and learns something from it. Then he finds another opponent.

ACT2 - CONFRONTATION

Conflict / Obstacles - He found out his opponent but the turtle is smart to use water lane to become faster and then Sho is left behind.

Turning Point2 - Sho found an idea to make use of eagle then he make himself caught by eagle then he detached himself from his shell in order to go away from the eagle to reach the finish line.

ACT3 - RESOLUTION

Climax - The eagle approach Sho then gripped Sho onto the sky

Up the Stakes Sho is gathered all his inner power to push himself out from his shell.

Outcome - Sho is thrown away in front of finish line.

Resolution - At last Sho can win the race and he can turn back into normal human.

Key Message - we must work hard to achieve something we want.

STORYLINE

Once upon a time there was an old poor carpenter named Ben lived with his the only son. They have lived in the middle of mountain in order for Ben to get woods easily. Ben is really poor, even he cannot fulfill eat three times a day. Because of his family condition, Ben’s son named Sho becomes a very ungrateful and faithless son. Sho never helps Ben working or even a single simple thing for help Ben.

One day, Ben is cutting the wood to make firewood for them and suddenly Ben feels not well because his weak old body. Ben is calling Sho for help because if they do not make the firewood, tonight will be a cold night for them to survive. But Sho rejects him immediately and mocks him by saying “You are very un useful parent, you even cannot make my stomach full yet you ask me to do something!”. Ben who heard that is really angry that time and curse him into a snail. However there is still a way for Sho to break the spell, he has to ask an animal in the forest to have a race with him and he must win the race in order to break the spell.

Therefore Sho goes to the forest and find whoever who wants to have a race with him as a snail. Firstly Sho is looking for a weak look like animal, so at least he got a chance to win. Then he choose ant as his opponent, but then when he ask the ant to have a race match with him, he got tricked by the ant that is helpful with each other. Every time the ant is left behind Sho, the other ant is cover up by stand by in front of Sho. At last Sho lost to the ants. Then Sho was learn that everything is become easier if we help each other.

After that Sho is finding another opponent for him. Then he chose a turtle to have a race match with him, after that the turtle ask him with his irritating voice what is his benefit if he wins the match. Sho tells him he will provide the food stocks for him during the winter. But then the turtle rejects him and says he does not want that kind of thing, but he wants Sho is stay forever to become his butler. At the beginning Sho feels indecisive with the turtle offers, but he has no choice if he wants to turn back into human again.

Then the race is starting. Sho is crawling as fast as he can, as did the turtle. Unexpectedly those creatures are crawling so slowly and even we can see worm is faster than them. Even the narrator is tired of waiting they are crawling until the finish line. When Sho is crawling seriously, in a distance seen an eagle is flying towards him like he wants to eat him. Suddenly snail inner power is come out in urgent circumstance. Yet, no matter how fast snail is running, of course eagle can catch him. The turtle whose having match with him is startling by it.

Suddenly Sho remembers what his father always says that when snail can go out from his shell when they wants to poo. So, Sho forces his body power to poo and make himself go out from his shell. After that Sho finally be able to go out from his shell and he thrown from the eagle grip. Afterward Sho is falling down right in front of finish line. The turtle is startling fro the second time seeing Sho is right in front of finish line eve though the turtle is almost close to it.

At last Sho wins, and he turns back into normal. The turtle is startling again for the third time seeing Sho change into human. At the end Sho is running back into his house and apology his father for what he has done. 

SCRIPT

ACT1

SCENE 1 – INT – INSIDE BEN’S HOUSE – DAY

Action description – Ben is working hard while Sho is only playing

Ben is chopping trees then asking for Sho’s help. Sho is rejecting Ben’s request.

BEN

(exhausted)

Sho, can you do a favor for me?

SHO

(angry)

I don't want! Do yourself, right now I’m very tired.

BEN

(upset)

…

(go chopping the tree by his own)

Next day

Action Description – The weather is bad, looks like storm is going to come. Ben is going to take the herbal herb from the mountain. Sho is lying down on his bed while reading comic.

BEN

(gentle voice)

Sho, come and help me to take some food from mountain for our dinner later.

SHO

(angry)

Why you keep asking me to do your job? Don't you see right now I’m reading my comic book? We have our own job so do it yourself!

BEN

(disappointed)

But, if we did not take it now later if the storm comes we cannot provide our food. I also want to do it myself, but now I’m feeling unwell. More over if we do it together will become more faster then we can eat together…

SHO

(angry)

I DON’T CARE! DO IT YOURSELF YOU STICKY DISGUISTING OLDMAN!!

BEN

(Mad)

You… I’m trying to be a good father for you.

But you never appreciated my effort for you. I’m always do any single things to fulfill your daily life. With all these things I want you to become a snail!!

Suddenly the thunder storm is coming, the wind is blowing hard and then with a flash speed Sho is turning into snail.

SHO

(surprise)

Father! What happened to me?? Faster do something to turn me back into normal human!!!

BEN

(Mad)

Even in this kind of moment you still ask me to do something from you?! I tell this once!! You have to win a race match from any animal in the forest before sunset. This is the only way for you to go back!!

(leave Sho alone and goes to sleep)

Action Description – Sho is going to the forest to find any animal to against him in race match.

DISSOLVE TO:

ACT1

SCENE2 –EXT – FOREST – DAY

Action Description – Sho is crawling around and looking for his opponent. Then he is staring at the small ant in front him.

SHO

Hi, you are very small creature. Your speed also must be not fast enough to beat me.

The Ant

(silent)

SHO

So, do you want to have a race match against me? I know you won’t win, but I’ll give my pleasure as your complimentary of trying.

The Ant

(Feel humiliated)

I accept your challenge! Then if you loose I will step on your head!

SHO

(Arrogantly)

Well never mind, I won’t loose either. If I win I promise I will cringe myself to be your friend.

The Ant

(irritated)

Challenge accepted!

Action Description – They are having a race match, but Sho is lost because the ant always catches Sho up by the other ant. From here Sho learns that we have to help each other to make a thing easier.

CUT TO:

ACT2

SCENE3 –EXT – FOREST – EVENING

Action Description – Sho still needs to win so he is finding another opponent and choose turtle as his opponent. This time he does not want to be cocky anymore.

SHO

(shoutting)

Hi Mr. Turtle over there. Now I want to ask to have a race match!

TURTLE

(plainly)

huh?! Then what is my benefit if I win this match?

SHO

(confuse)

hmm, I can provide your food stock for the next winter..

TURTLE

Ahh those things of course I can provide by myself. I want something else! Hm how if I win you will become my buttler?

Action Description – Firstly Sho shocks because The turtle request but then Sho’s times are running out so he accept the agreement. And they are begin for having a match.

SCENE4 –EXT – FOREST – EVENING

Action Description – They are starting the race. Those to are very slow but in the middle of the race, the turtle is clever he uses the water lane to make him walk faster than Sho.The Sunset also almost comes.

SHO

(exhaustion)

If like keep like this I’m surely will loose and I won’t turn back into normal human again.. AAaaa I have to do something!!

Action Description – Suddenly from a distance looks an eagle coming to stab Sho. Sho who is walking slowly definitely caught by the eagle.

ACT3

SCENE5 –EXT – FOREST – EVENING

Action Description – Sho is caught by the eagle and flying through the sky quickly. Sho is panic because he thinks he will die. At the frightened time like that, Sho apologize to his father suddenly he remember his father once told him that snail can release their body with their shell.

SHO

(put all his strength)

uurrghh… I’ll surely win and fix my relationship with my father!

(detach his body from his snail)

TURTLE

(shock)

huhh why he can be there

(staring at Sho in the sky)

Action Description – Sho is thrown far away from the sky and direct reach finish line unexpectedly. And the sunset is appearing already. Because Sho fulfill his goal then he is turning back into normal human again.

TURTLE

(shock)

huhh why he can change into human??!!

(freezing at the moment)

SHO

(exciting)

Yeahh!! Finally..!! I have to find father and apology him!

SCENE5 –INT – SHO’S HOUSE – NIGHT

Action Description – Sho is running towards his father’s room to say sorry. Then Sho is promise to his father that he will work hard to survive in this life. His father feels relief seeing him can turn back into normal human again.
